Sarah Carroll Hamauei, MD

Dr. Sarah Hamauei is a board-certified addictionologist based in Northwest Louisiana. She has over 15 years of experience treating and consulting on the care of patients with substance use disorders (SUD) across multiple levels of care. She has also advised facilities throughout the state on appropriate clinical and regulatory standards and guidelines. She served on a statewide opioid expert panel, guiding Louisiana’s opioid policy, and has been a keynote speaker at numerous public and private events. Through a grant initiative, she led a team in developing a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program, expanding access for Medicaid and underinsured patients in North Louisiana. She is actively engaged in speaking at community events, forums, panels, conferences, and conventions focused on addiction and medicine. She currently works and consults for managed care and state organizations while continuing to see patients in private practice.

Dr. Hamauei attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where she earned dual degrees in Psychology and Microbiology. She received her Doctor of Medicine from LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport and completed her residency in Family Medicine in 2009. She began treating addiction in 2010 and became board-certified in Addiction Medicine in 2015. She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and the American Board of Preventive Medicine, which now holds the ABMS-recognized Addiction Medicine subspecialty.
